Mixed Media Canvas Layout

Happy Monday!!  Since the Saudi Arabia work week start on a Sunday, I had some scrappy time today and I wanted to create a project that was on my mind for a few days now.  My niece Celeste, recently became the mommy of a beautiful new baby girl.  Emily was born early May and she is just such a beauty!  On Fathers Day Celeste shared  a few family photos on Facebook, and I "borrowed" one of the photos to scrap as a present for this brand-new family.

I decided to create a layout on canvas for her to display in her home, if she choose to do so.  I couldn't find 12" x 12" stretched canvas at our local craft store, but they had 12" x 12" canvas board.  It's basically the same thing, just without the wooden frame.  With the canvas board, the canvas is just stretch over a flat board.

I wanted to keep the feel of the layout soft and for this the Madeleine Collection from Bo Bunny worked perfectly for me.  Soft pale pinks and greens allowed me to add lots of shabby chic elements which I love.

I really love the little birds on the paper and knew that I want to use this on this project.  I did a lot of fuzzy cutting and only use patterned paper for my photo mat.

Texture was added with some texture paste and Bo Bunny's script stencil ... I am in love with this stencil!!!  I know I mentioned it before but it is worth saying again ... For texture paste I use Gabrielle Pollacco's  recipe to make your own. It is quick and easy to make and it works beautifully ... I love using this!!   You can find the link to the recipe here.

And how beautiful are these Botanica flowers from Petaloo??

And here is a closer look at some of the detail ..

Products use:
Paper:  Bo Bunny Madeline Collection - Madeleine/Madeleine Stripe/Madeleine Roses/Madeleine Allure/Madeleine Grace
Chipboard:  Blue Fern Studios
Metal flowers and butterflies:  FabScraps
Flowers:  Prima, Petaloo, Kaisercraft
Lace:  Prims
Sprays & Mists:  Prima, Bo Bunny
Gelatos:  Faber Castell
Stencil: Prima
Jewels:  Eyelet Outlet
Gesso and Texture Paste

Now I want to create something similar for myself!  Project brewing ... Watch this space!

Have a great week!!  Hugs,

Celebrating Kate - Scrapbook Studio Sketch

It seems that I'm on a roll  creatively ... and I love it!!  I almost forgot how good it is for my soul to be able to let my creative side take over ... and just play with paper, glue and photos that makes my heart sing!

Scrapbook Studio has a "Sketch of the Month" competition, and I wanted to play along since the sketch is really yummy!!  More details are available on the Scrapbook Studio blog, if you want to play along!

Here is a look at the sketch ...

Scrapbook Studio Sketch of the Month
And here is my take ...

I have to be honest ... I fell in love with the doily stamp from the Kaisercraft Secret Garden stamp set ... and I have gone totally overboard using it with heat embossing on the edges of this page.  I'm really on the fence whether I love it ... or not!

The photos are from the baby shower for my daughter.  The baby shower was scheduled for the beginning of July, and baby Kate's due date was the beginning of August ... plenty of time, right??  WRONG!!!  Baby Kate was born 5 weeks premature and surprised as all with her arrival.  Let me just say how totally unprepared we were for her to arrive!  My son-in-law wasn't due to arrive in South Africa for 4 weeks, and so I was very lucky, privileged and scared to be with my daughter during labor.  I was scared for this little baby being born 5 weeks to early.  I remember praying to please let her lungs be sufficiently developed for her to breath on her on!  For her to be healthy!  When she was born, I was STUNNED at how small she was ... and how PERFECT!  She started crying almost immediately ... and I cried right along with her!  It's a memory I will cherish for always!!  I remember while she was placed in the incubator, and the medical staff was still tending to the new mommy, I had a moment alone with baby Kate.  I placed my hands on the incubator and just prayed!  Begging God's mercy, love and grace on this little girl that He has blessed us with!  Even as I type here, I remember the powerful emotions that came over me!  Like I said ... these are moments that will always be precious to me.  And this is how baby Kate was present at her baby shower ... and the shower turned into a celebration of her life!!

I stuck pretty close to the sketch, except for my OCD border :-)!  I also create a little flap booklet on the left hand-side of the page for more photos of the shower.  Here are some close-up shots of the details and the booklet ...

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this doily stamp ... Can you blame me for going overboard??

 The flap blooklet ...

I would love to know what you think about the doily border ... Too much??  See you soon!!

Let's Scrap - Sketch 6-15-15

It's been a VERY long time since I played along with the gals at Let's Scrap, but the latest sketch is just to good to NOT play along with!  I am so happy with how this one turned out.  And let me just say ... This layout is long overdue!!!  These photos was taken 2 weeks before my daughter gave birht to our beautiful granddaughter, Kate ... who will be turning ONE YEAR OLD next week!

Baby Kate @ 11 months
Isn't she GORGEOUS?? I love this little girl with all my heart ... she is just so precious!

So, back to the Let's Scrap Sketch and my layout.  Let's have a look at both ...

Let's Scrap Sketch 6-15-15

This was a great sketch to work with for me, and I think it's one you can play around with!  I will definitely be using this sketch in the future as well.  Here is what I created with the sketch ...

You're Beautiful
I used the gorgeous Blue Bay collection from Kaisercraft for this page.  I just works beautifully with the beach photos that I used ... I love how it turned out.  Instead of the collage on the right hand-side page, I created a little mini book with a file from Silhouette Studio and my Cameo.  The file consist of some pages, pockets and envelopes .. very cute!  Here's a close-up of the mini book ...

And some details on the page ...

I'm not to happy with my title ... I think it needs something to make it pop!

If you want to play along with this challenge, you have 6 more days to get you layout uploaded to the Let's Scrap blog.

Happy Scrapping!

Monday, June 8, 2015

So it's been a little while since I've been here, written anything, share some scrappy stuff..  Honestly, at one time I seriously considered just shutting done this little blog of mine ... But here I am!  I just couldn't let it go!  It seems I am not a great "multi-tasker" of life.  When things get hectic I just can't seem to find the time to share here.

But now we are back living in Saudi Arabia once again.  My dearest hubby signed a new work contract and this will be "home" once again for the next few years.  My feelings on this ... very mixed to say the least!  Life here is so not "normal".  It's like you live in a bubbly outside of reality.  It's an indulgent life, if you let it be.  But I miss normal things like getting up each morning and going to work, driving where I need to be and want to go, attending church service, going to the movies, go shopping in normal clothes, not to have to schedule what needs to be done in town around the compound bus service or my husbands working hours and Prayer times.  But I also do know that this is a privileged life.  Not paying rent for furnished housing, not paying taxes on salary, not paying for electricity and water utilities, health care, the experience of another country and culture, the ability to be able to travel, meet new people from so many nationalities, to have many hours of creative time each and every day!  So you take the bad with the good ... and you make it the best possible experience for yourself.

Part of the good is that I will be able to do so much more creative things.  And I will have time to write about them here.  I am also planning on changing this blog a little bit ... mixing things up a bit.
Sharing a little bit more about our life here, our family, travels and my thoughts and emotions.  I hope you will stick around, and even share some of your own thoughts with me as well.

Thank you for sticking around here ... even during the times when I am not here.  It is appreciated so, so much.

See you soon!
